Following successful workshops in Rome, Bucharest and Volos, the Eu-Roma partners are coming to London for a final series of events throughout June, to coincide with the second Gypsy Roma Traveller History Month.

Sue Konu and David Knight of Project 35 have returned from the research trip and symposium in Volos, Greece, undertaken as part of the Eu-Roma project. It was an inspiring and provocative trip and we will be assembling a summary of new information shortly.

Our mapping of Roma and travellers in the London context will, in the meantime, be shown as part of a Europe-wide exhibition of Eu-Roma work at the RIBA, Portland Place, in June. This will coincide with the second UK Gypsy Roma Traveller History Month.

Sue Konu and David Knight of Project 35 will be in Greece next week for the next stage of the European Roma Mapping project- and participating in the Building Together symposium organised by Maria Papadimitriou at the University of Thessaly, Volos. Sue will deliver a presentation covering recent research produced by the practice and contemporary narratives of Roma and travellers in the London and UK context.

Following our visit to Thames Christian College's 'Careers Evening' in late February, we recently organised a day workshop for students interested in pursuing architecture or design. To give them a taste of architectural processes, we took their school building as a project, ran a consultation on its qualities and things missing, and then worked in groups to develop new solutions and visions for the school based upon those new understandings.

We also talked the students through a range of ideas affecting architecture, and took them through the processes that happen after these initial brainstorming sessions- right up to the finished, inhabitable building.

The workshop, which we ran with Nick Coombe and Fenella Collingridge, will shortly have a follow-up session - and crit - to present the students' developed proposals.

The 'Roma Preview Pavilion' is on show, with photographs of Roma life by Marina Obradovic, at the 'Muzeul Taranului Roman' in Bucharest.

The exhibition closes on the 3rd April.

This year's Christmas card is shown on the right, showing our scheme design in Thamesmead which is now nearing completion. This same project was the subject of our 2005 card- though then in sketch form. The snowflakes remain the same...

Project 35's entry to the Norwich Union / RIBA Flood Design competition has been published in  'Flood-proof houses for the future: A compendium of design', a document launched at the Thames Gateway Forum.

Project 35 are developing proposals for a new spa complex in south-east England in collaboration with Nick Coombe. The work is currently at the visioning stage, and has led to the study model on the right. We'll post more soon.

Project 35 director Sue Konu has returned from her trip to Romania to attend the 'Roma(nia: Severe and Extreme Poverty' event held as part of the ongoing European Roma Mapping Project. More details can be found on the project page- see link on the right!

Our scheme designs in Thamesmead are edging ever nearer to completion, so we took another journey over there to see progress.

Project 35's 'Ark House' design is to be showcased at the 2008 Thames Gateway Forum event at London's ExCel centre, 26-27th November. The project, selected as a "strong contender" in the recent RIBA/Norwich Union Flood Risk Design competition, has today been added to our research projects section of the website.

Having finished its run at the Architecture Foundation's Closet Gallery, the 'Rule of Regulations' is travelling to the Berlage Institute in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

The exhibition was co-produced by Project 35 team member David Knight and Finn Williams.

It will be on display there from the 25th November to the 19th December.

Project 35 Director Sue Konu will be travelling to Bucharest in mid October for a series of workshops and seminars, "ROMA(nia). Between Severe and Extreme Poverty", part of the European Roma Mapping project. Sue will discuss the findings of our mapping and research phase conducted to investigate the nature of Roma dwellings in London.

The image on the right is of a map produced to represent traveller sites and their capacities across the Greater London area.

The event is from 19th-26th October and we will keep you posted with its findings.

Lucy Orta, collaborator with Project 35 on the European Roma Mapping project and Professor of Art, Fashion and the Environment at the London College of Fashion, is currently showing some recent work in the LCF's Fashion Gallery. The free event, entitled 'Survival', shows new work never before seen in the UK including some pieces from Lucy's Antarctica project.

The Roma 'preview' Pavilion at this year's Venice Architecture Biennale is open to visitors and features work by EuRoMa collaborator Lucy Orta, supported by CNCR Bucharest, ATU Bucharest, LAN Napoli and TAMA Athens. The show features specially produced tents dressed in Roma fabrics.

Working with Finn Williams , Project 35 team member David Knight has developed an exhibition for the Closet Gallery, a temporary venue commissioned by the Architecture Foundation in a railway arch beside the Union Gallery, London SE1.

'The Rule of Regulations' investigates current UK housing legislation in a serious but playful way, applying five current policy documents, including the 'Code for Sustainable Homes' and 'Housing Quality Indicators', to Le Corbusier's famous Maison Citrohan.

The exhibition documents in detail the various iterations applied to Le Corbusier's 1927 ideal home in order for it to achieve 21st Century notions of 'quality' - along the way raising the question of whether we may well be creating a whole new 'international style' through the rule of regulations.
