The Rule of Regulations

Working with Finn Williams , Project 35 team member David Knight has developed an exhibition for the Closet Gallery, a temporary venue commissioned by the Architecture Foundation in a railway arch beside the Union Gallery, London SE1.

'The Rule of Regulations' investigates current UK housing legislation in a serious but playful way, applying five current policy documents, including the 'Code for Sustainable Homes' and 'Housing Quality Indicators', to Le Corbusier's famous Maison Citrohan.

The exhibition documents in detail the various iterations applied to Le Corbusier's 1927 ideal home in order for it to achieve 21st Century notions of 'quality' - along the way raising the question of whether we may well be creating a whole new 'international style' through the rule of regulations.

The Closet Gallery, Union Gallery, 57 Ewer Street, London SE1 0NR; Monday - Friday 12-6pm, Saturday 12-5pm

Though both are still partially wrapped in scaffolding, we managed to get some photographs that give a flavour of the finished schemes. Here is a small selection- more soon!

The event also served as a kind of housewarming for our new studio in Herne Hill. Thanks to all those who came along to see the show and finish our Prosecco stash.

Last night we opened an exhibition for Roma Support Group as part of their celebratory concert at Conway Hall. The exhibition, for one night only in London, tells the story of contemporary Roma experience in relation to the work of the RSG, and takes the form of a series of themed travel boxes and supports.

The night was a delight, with Roma and traveller bands playing together in the main hall at Conway and on the surrounding pavements.

Our work was developed with Lucy Orta at the London College of Fashion, with graphic designers Europa, in close collaboration with the RSG, and is part of Gypsy Roma Traveller History Month.

It will next be on display at the end of the month in Leeds.

Collage Urbanism

We're masterplanning a large site outside London.

In order to get the creative juices flowing on this big, blank site, we started with a pile of scaled plans and aerial photographs. More to be posted, meanwhile here is a photo of the work in progress.

Somewhere in here, there's some butterfly-roofed Islignton townhouses, the circulation routes from Corbusier's Venice Hospital, a Borromini church and even our local pub.

I'm pretty sure this isn't what Colin Rowe meant by 'collage city', but it's fun all the same.
'Phoenix Point' scheme topping out ceremony

Our scheme design in Thamesmead, now named 'Phoenix Point' as it nears completion, was 'topped out' on Friday 28th March.

Ian Beckett, Director of Development at client Gallions Housing Association, said that the scheme will "be a new focal point for Thamesmead, not only due to its locating, but also its eye-catching design. We are aiming to create homes and communities that people are proud of. This new development will go a long way to help achieve that."

The ceremony follows a prior ceremony for 'Ringside Court', our other Thamesmead scheme design, which happened at the end of 2007.

Completion for both schemes is now due for October 2008.
